The Challenge: Connecting Remote Employees in a High-Burnout Industry

As the People Operations Manager at Stability Healthcare, Samantha Wisniewski’s primary focus is supporting their recruiters and clinicians. “Given the high rate of burnout and stress in the healthcare industry, we place a high priority on engagement and wellbeing,” Samantha said.

Stability Healthcare also needed a remote-friendly engagement solution in order to meet the needs of their 100% distributed workforce. Samantha explained, We were a fully remote company seeking to look for ways to provide meaningful recognition and offer incentives to our teammates.”

Incentivizing Performance with Points-Based Contests and Awards

From 5-Star Google Business reviews to financial audits, Stability Healthcare’s recognition award strategy is aligned with their organizational goals.

Manager empowerment is a big part of that strategy. Samantha said, “When we first introduced Cooleaf, our leaders were floored that they were able to show that appreciation to their teammates when they go above and beyond. It empowers them to make a difference because those shout-outs really help to motivate their teams.” 

In 2024, they also implemented awards to incentivize recruiters to fill hard-to-fill jobs in certain states or for certain specialties. Samantha said, “We run all of our contests and incentives through Cooleaf, so other teams can understand the sales metrics and what the role requires on a day to day basis.” For Samantha, the ability to use Cooleaf for these “on-the-fly” incentives was a game-changer. “It's very helpful to be able to set up the awards immediately whenever we need them. It’s great to have everything communicated and accessible in one place.”

The results of the program speak for themselves. “While the healthcare market is ever changing and has remained fairly tumultuous the past year, we have seen an increase in productivity since using Cooleaf.”

Samantha even encourages Stability Healthcare team members to reference Cooleaf for internal performance reviews at the end of the year. "It provides employees with a well-rounded view of their year by highlighting their strengths and peer recognition from earlier in the year. I include any notable achievements in their self-assessment for recognition, even if it's just a simple shout-out, so they can use it as a tool."

Measuring Employee Sentiment with eNPS Surveys

Although Stability Healthcare initially sent their employee surveys through a survey tool outside of Cooleaf, they noticed a drop in survey participation after the first few quarters. “Our surveys were amazing for gathering data, but as the year went on less people engaged in the surveys because they were so lengthy,” said Samantha.

After undergoing a company restructure, the HR department wanted to re-examine their employee feedback strategy. “I didn't want to overcommit and underdeliver. So with the help of the Cooleaf team, we decided to take a more simple approach. We asked about our core values. We asked if we were in alignment. And what we identified as our biggest area of opportunity is communication.”

Team engagement surveys capture valuable employee feedback in Cooleaf

The simplicity of Cooleaf’s survey tool, along with guidance from the Cooleaf Customer Success Team, helped make the process of creating and implementing eNPS easy. The survey results were critical for revamping their approach to engagement, culture, and communication. “Without the guidance and assistance of Cooleaf, we wouldn’t have had that level of awareness,” said Samantha. 

“We’ve worked really hard to improve communication, from encouraging more effective one-on-ones with managers to having a team meeting with employee shout-outs and updates on the business. And we’ve seen a big improvement in our survey scores as a result.” As a result, Stability Healthcare was proud to be Certified™ by Great Place to Work® in 2024. “We couldn’t be more proud of the culture we’ve built here, especially with a distributed team,” Samantha said.

Boosting Employee Morale with Ongoing Engagement and Recognition

Since launching the Cooleaf platform, it has become their one-stop-shop for everything related to company culture, community, and engagement. “Prior to Cooleaf, everything was very siloed. Shoutouts for great work or a ‘job well done" were limited to department head meetings in a setting with few individuals. Cooleaf has allowed us to share our wins with the entire company, and is now the central spot for our team to stay informed and celebrate together – whether they're on a different team or on the other side of the country.”
