Creating a Culture of Kindness During COVID-19

The coronavirus outbreak has turned the world upside down, impacting lives and disrupting nearly every industry. But amid the pandemic, many individuals are countering fear with compassion. From an upswing in animal fostering to people sharing their relief checks, there are amazing stories of kindness and generosity everywhere you look.

Businesses, too, are finding ways to give back and support their customers and their employees. Whether by donating proceeds to relief efforts, making masks, or matching individual donations, many companies are stepping up to help.

For many top workplaces, compassion is a central part of a strong work culture. Increasingly, companies are empowering their employees to  demonstrate compassion and empathy.

To assist our customers in giving back, Cooleaf teamed up with Feed the Need, an Atlanta organization that delivers meals from local restaurants to area hospital healthcare workers and first responders.

Rather than redeem their reward points for an Amazon or Target gift card, many employees chose to donate their points to Feed the Need.

Creating a culture of compassion with employee donations

With the donations from Cooleaf customers, Feed the Need was able to deliver over 250 meals to Atlanta hospitals like Emory and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta-Scottish Rite. Since the meals were sourced from local restaurants, these donations benefited independent business owners as well as healthcare workers.

As part of this campaign, the Cooleaf team also collected handwritten thank-you notes, cards, and photos. Employees expressed their creativity while sharing words of encouragement and appreciation for healthcare heroes:

Employees also had the unique benefit of getting to see the direct impact of their donations. After each meal delivery drop-off, we shared personalized thank-you photos with each company that contributed:

Throughout the campaign, employees were also encouraged to give back in other ways. The giving campaign included Cooleaf challenges to support local businesses, donate to charitable organizations contributing to COVID-19 relief efforts, and more.

How to drive a culture of compassion in the workplace

Giving employees an opportunity to give back can boost employee happiness and help them feel connected to a greater purpose. During difficult times, working together to give back will inspire and engage your team.

Paying it forward in the workplace can have a positive impact on employee performance and engagement.
